Prismatic Skylights and Natural Lighting

Working with high performance prismatic skylights will prevent the use of energy for the lighting system in all commercial, industrial and educational buildings while delivering all the benefits of the natural light without the heat and UV.  Saving 1 KW is 10 times cheaper than generating the same KW and will not generate any polluting residues.

Our Mission
A Sustainable Energy Future

SunOptics is dedicated to creating the finest daylighting environments in which to work, shop, learn, live and play, and we are committed to reducing the world´s dependence on oil.

Our primary focus is to design, manufacture and install skylights that yield optimal light transmittance in concert with excellent light distribution, while reducing energy consumption.

We provide personal and exceptional customer assistance, while seeking to educate the public about the personal, social, economic and environmental benefits of good daylighting design.

A Few Facts

In 1978, SunOptics introduced the prismatic skylight, a unique concept in skylight optical design. What makes prismatic skylights better than conventional white or clear skylights are the thousands of tiny prisms over 8,000 per square foot. The prisms refract direct sunlight into thousands of micro light beams. The result is a soft yet bright natural light, directed throughout the room.

Daylighting can replace electric light up to 70% of daylight hours. This can mean tremendous energy savings in buildings that operate during the day such as schools, offices, warehouses, factories and retail stores. In fact, the short-term payback can be as little as two years. Over the long term, daylighting reduces greenhouse gases and the pollution of water and air the by-products of generating electricity.

Daylighting provides full-spectrum, flicker free light. In study after study, daylighting is correlated to dramatic improvements in retail, workplace and educational venues. A study initiated by Pacific Gas and Electric showed that students with the most daylighting in their classrooms progressed 20 percent faster on math tests and 26 percent faster on reading tests in one year than those with the least. In the retail setting, daylighting dramatically increased sales by 40%.

Economically and ecologically, daylighting makes sense.

Nice pictures. How do these skylights perform under diffuse lighting conditions?
