Walk to School - A pied c'est le pied

Matthias Lüfkens on November 4, 2007 | 642 Views | 1 Comment

In the town of Messery on Lake Geneva the parents have created the Cordee, a walking school bus where kids are holding on to a long rope. Over 20 kids are now walking to school everyday seriously reducing the amount of cars chauffering the children to school. It is estimated that children from the age of 3 can easily walk a kilometre to school. Chechk out the blog in French here: http://messerycordee.blogspot.com/

In Japan, a very similar system exists (without the rope), where the older children of a street/block take the lead to take the younger ones to school and back home.
