Google and renewable energies

Google is looking to invest "hundreds of millions" of dollars in companies that can develop green energy resources that will provide power that costs less than coal.  Their goal (besides making a profit) is to bring the price of engergy down and make it scalable to a level competitive with the cheapest dirty technologies.
