Is Sustainable Energy a virtual subject?

Sergio Ferreira on November 29, 2007 | 1169 Views

Sustainable energy is unquestionably an important issue, but not anyone’s issue – let others deal with that, save energy and protect our climate. We could say this is a non-issue, or a virtual issue.

NGOs, Energy Agencies, Governments across the world struggled for long to put sustainable energy use in the Agenda, but it took even longer to put in people’s minds. But now the situation is changing. Whatever the reason may be (Climate Change, Nobel Prizes, competitiveness, or having a better conscience) we are reaching a tipping point making energy efficiency as “normal” as drinking water or waking up in the morning.

But coming back to the virtual, there may well be also another tipping point coming that will move our actions to the virtual world. And Sustainable Energy is there. Organizations like Leonardo ENERGY or the EC&M are now running their virtual exhibition grounds. The Leonardo ENERGY 3D Forum is hosting weekly sessions with short presentations aiming at introducing a subject and opening a discussion. Take a look at some findings of the discussions that took place last week on Photovoltaics and Balancing Mechanisms and get surprised in one of the next sessions.

There is also an exhibition ground with 3 rooms - Distributed Generation, Energy Efficiency and Power Quality - where models of equipment can be found with explanatory information.

“Virtually speaking” there is a lot going on energy issues, but there is still a lot more to be done. And virtual conferences or trade fairs are quite an effective way to move towards sustainable energy use reducing travel needs, environmental impacts and costs.

Lets go energy virtual!
