Smart Meters

Cons Ortheil on January 21, 2008 | 1037 Views | 3 Comments

imageI come from a part of Australia which has very old meters which will soon be upgraded. I was wondering if anyone on this forum is able to discuss smart meters, the different types available, and the experiences you have had with them.

I have heard of pre-payment meters for credit risk customers, and interval meters that communicate with the retailer via the internet.

Smart metering is in my opinion an important component for implementing price reflective electricity, in that higher prices should result in lower consumption.

Please share you experiences with smart meters.

Hello Cons

in Europe, smart metering is also a very interesting issue that has been developing quite fast.

Some countries (Italy, The Netherlands) have quite successful program in place.

We have also issued a report on the the topic that may be of good help for you. It introduces the basic concept and a few features of smart meters. Hope this gives you a better idea and I am available if you wish to discuss a bit further.

 Regards

Sergio

Hi,

As part of my day job (project architect for the leading UK smart metering initiative), I am maintaining a google map of smart metering initiatives across the world - I have over 100 entries recorded thus far and it grows on a near daily basis. Most of the entries give some detail of the meter functionality, the technology being used and where possible a link to a relevant website.

 Thanks

 Simon
