"Tidal farm" is the new buzzword in renewables
One of the world’s first commercial-scale tidal stream projects is due to launch off the coast of Anglesey, near to Holyhead in north Wales in three or four years' time.
Described as an "innovative showcase tidal farm scheme", it's expected to be capable of generating 10.5 megawatts (MW) of clean, green power, which it will draw from major tidal currents in the sea.
To do so, it will use seven 1.5MW SeaGen turbines which will stand approximately nine metres above sea level.
