Commercial Production of Fuel Cell

Shinichi Nishidate on April 16, 2008 | 1308 Views

Matsushita Panasonic introduced new PEFC which has power generation efficiency 39% (this is the world best record for residential PEFC) and energy efficiency 93% on Japan Economical Newspaper (Nikkei) on 15th April. And this new FC will be begun commercial product in 2009. The power generation efficiency 39% is balance out the traditional thermal power generation. It can be reduced 37% CO2 emission comparing with traditional thermal power generation. Panasonic has a plan to commence the sale in 2009 and the price will be approximately one million Yen, it will be down to near five hundred thousand Yen in 2015. The estimate number of FC sales is 10,000 in 2010 year and 100,000 in 2015 year (the market share is expected above 1/3). These are summary of this newspaper. Well once I introduced the aspect of Japan fuel cell diffusion in my pulse “ practical use of best mix energy”, http://wattwatt.com/pulses/82/practical-use-of-best-mix-energy/

A few years ago we expected that PEFC would become widely used to 2,200,000 in 2010, last year the number was changed to 1,100,000 according to a trade paper.

I feel that this commercial production number 100,000 in 2015year is very small. But this is real.

The difficulties of developing PEFC are mainly the cost and reliability. About five years ago I researched the certification for FC as our new enterprise, we commenced the certification for FC in 2005 and now have certified one model (1kW class LPG) on this March. And now approximately 16 FC models (1 kW class) are certified by certification bodies in Japan. We expect the diffusion of Fuel Cell for preventing from earth warming climate, but the fuel of FC is used  natural gas, LPG or kerosene which is fossil fuel. The diffusion of Fuel Cell will bring relief for climate change, but we must pay more and best efforts for bringing no climate change. That is to say, I think and believe that the ultimate energy should be renewable energy, wind power, PV power, biomass energy and tidal energy etc. (Intelligent Energy), and also as a transitory measure we shall consider for practical clever usage of conventional energy. How about atomic energy? As you know Japan stands on almost earthquake land. We are able to only guess whether atomic energy plant is safe or not at many earthquakes in Japan, ofcause atmic energy plants must have fully strength against many eartquakes and very regrettably no one guess the strength of next earthquakes. Ofcause if we don’t have needs for depending on atomic energy, it is very happy. But now we must stop warming climate and we need energy for keeping our daily life.I think if I would live as if I were a my respectable Amish in Pennsylvania USA.I would like to introduce Wattwatters "World Bioenergy 2008" in Sweden on this May.

I am very happy that this informatin is useful for Wattwatters.
