Fancy painting your house in solar panel green?

Jonathan Buck on July 20, 2007 | 673 Views | 1 Comment

According to a report on Science Daily, we could soon be painting solar panels on to our houses and cars! Research at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) in the US have developed an "inexpensive solar cell that can be painted or printed on plastic sheets". Rock on to the day when painting the house will have a whole new meaning and impact!

Yes.  We have been predicting developments like this for more than a decade.

The critical questions, however, are:

1) What is the cost per kwh?

2) What is the estimated time between the laboratory work described here and even prototype production?

3) Can the buckyballs also serve as polymer batteries, thus enabling the technology to provide 24/24 energy rather than only daylight hour energy?
