Running to save the world

Pippa Rojo on September 14, 2007 | 908 Views | 2 Comments

I bet you've heard that expression before. It's an idea you'd normally associate with fund raising. This one's different.

Most of us like to think we keep fit and, if we don't go to the gym, we all know someone who does.

So then, who do you know who could manufacturer a simple system that takes all the energy we generate, but waste, on the running or rowing machine, weight lifting or muscle toning apparatus and convert it into electricity that can be used to turn on the lights and heat the swimming pool?

One would never earn a payback on the system to collect & condition the energy for use.

But there may be a motivational aspect tor keep on going. Would such a gym be able to command a price premium?

Would it necessarily have to cost a fortune to design/install?

Wouldn't the publicity that a gym could get for such a system be enough for companies to subscribe on a global basis so that their employees could keep fit at the same time as not costing any more in terms of carbon footprint?
